As passengers return to air travel, bad behavior skyrockets | Local Business News


Trade group Airlines for America sent a separate letter to the Federal Aviation Administration acknowledging that the “vast majority of passengers” comply with the rules but “unfortunately, we continue to see onboard behavior deteriorating into heinous acts, including assaults, threats and intimidation of crewmembers that directly interfere with the performance of crewmember duties and jeopardize the safety and security of everyone onboard the aircraft.”

So far, there have been no reports of major incidents at Tulsa International Airport, said Alexis Higgins, CEO of Tulsa Airports.

She said that since the local Tulsa mask mandate has been lifted, there has been an increase of people entering the airport without face coverings, with many forgetting there is still a federal mask mandate in place.

“Our volunteers provide masks at all three information desks and often approach the topic with maskless individuals by offering them one and then reminding them of the federal requirement,” she said.

So far, there have been no police reports of mask-related calls in recent months at the airport, she said.

“I think it reflects the general cooperativeness of our customers. They may not like the requirements, but they want to travel and are willing to follow the rules in place to protect other travelers,” she said.
