Belinda Tonkin has lost 15.7kg in SEVEN weeks after signing up to the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge!
She says the moment she knew she needed to make a change was after her daughter, who is nearly four, asked her why she was sad.
“I was in my room trying to get dressed. All I could fit into was one single top and one pair of black pants, that’s it,” says the Adelaide-based mamma.
“The only other top and pants I had that fit were in the wash. I was rotating the same four items of clothing. I broke down and cried. I had to wear the same clothes to work that I would wear to the shops or going out.
As a result I would cancel social things and was deeply ashamed.”
How this mum lost nearly 16kg in just seven weeks!
The mum-of-one says she was in complete denial about her weight issues and just hoped they would go away.
“I was already at the maximum dress size 26. So in that moment I looked at my daughter and thought how can I teach her self-love and be a role model when I despise so much about the person I have become,” she says.
“I was also suffering in physical pain as I couldn’t get get out of bed in the morning without everything hurting. I would sit on edge of bed and take a few breaths before moving my heavy and sore body.
“My body ached all over especially my feet and back and I was fearful I wouldn’t be here for my daughter and to watch her grow. “
Belinda feels like she’s finally addressing her food issues
For Belinda, she embarked on a journey of self -care and addressed her issues with food and why she felt she over ate.
“I found The Healthy Mummy when I friend told me about it at about the same time I was trying to make new food and exercise choices,” she says.
“In 7 weeks since joining Healthy Mummy, I have lost 15.7 kilos. I am still a size 26 but I am so close to dropping that dress size and remembering at size 26 nothing was fitting or it was so tight I couldn’t wear the outfit tight but now in size 26 everything is loose and I am starting to wear size 24 tops.
“The health benefits so far have been improved sleep, my back pain is gone and my feet pain has improved immensely. My family have said my skin in glowing.”
What’s more, Belinda say her moods have improved.
“I feel happier and have more patience. I suffer with anxiety and low self-esteem but I can feel my resilience building and feeling more confident with every passing day,” she says.
“I use the Healthy Mummy App to plan meals and record exercise and calories. I drink The Healthy Mummy smoothies – currently having the double chocolate premium and the vanilla tummy smoothie.”
What a typical day looks like for Belinda
Breakfast: A typical day begins with a Healthy Mummy smoothie but to add some extra calories so I fuel my body I add berries or banana, spinach, almond butter, almond milk. To be honest I love how I can go to my fridge and experiment. Any combination I use tastes amazing.
Morning snack: I tend have dips with veggie sticks
Lunch: I have salads or wraps or rolls with chicken
Afternoon snack: It generally a slice or baked snack from the Healthy Mummy App such as the Weet-Bix slice or protein balls
Dinner: Can honestly be anything, stir fry, lean red meat and veg, fish, wholemeal pasta dishes as this is the meals my family also enjoy
Dessert: I tend to have my tea and dark chocolate or currently loving the simple panna cotta. If I am still hungry at different times if day I have an extra smoothie or some nuts or repeat a snack.
“90% of all the meals and snacks are from the Healthy Mummy app.”

3 tips for success
1. Be kind and gentle to yourself and practice positive self- talk. You make better decisions for yourself when you believe your worthy of wonderful things.
2. Be realistic with goal setting and don’t expect results overnight. This is supposed to be hard and it’s meant to be a journey. Take it one step at a time.
3. Find what works for you. For me, it is paramount to meal plan and prep what I can . I also work out what days I can fit in my exercise around my families commitments and work. I have also made my exercise a priority which has meant saying no at times to other things.
“Believe in yourself. You’re capable of anything you set your body , mind and soul to. It will take planning and making different food choices but in return you can expect to learn new things about yourself and find out what your truly capable of.
“Use your Healthy Mummy community for support. I have met a beautiful group of Health Mummy friends and we encourage and support each other. This community is truly amazing. It helps knowing I am not alone on this journey. I am very thankful for the new friendships I have made.”
